Biography

Mr. Walter Lee Smith age 74, of Anderson, Missouri formerly of Plainview, Texas was called to heaven on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri following a short illness.

Walter began his journey on May 6, 1935 in Raymondville, Texas born to the late Barney Louis and Edna Grace (Brillheart) Smith. He was a farmer most of his life. Walter was united in marriage to Wilma Ann Morris in 1961 and to this union three children were born. They survive ~ Edna Billups and husband Gary of Lanagan, Missouri; Patricia Turner and husband Gary of Stella, Missouri and Robert Smith and wife Cameilla of Anderson, Missouri. In 1989 Walter was united to his beloved Francis Scott in Plainview, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2007. He is survived by his stepchildren ~ Clifford Scott and wife Doritha of Lubbock, Texas; Sharon Barrett and husband David of Lubbock, Texas; and Jerry Scott and wife Candice of Plainview, Texas; Loretta Scott of Plainview, Texas; twenty four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother ~ Curtis Smith of Lubbock Texas; one sister ~ Geneva Lemons of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Walter lived most of his life in Plainview, Texas before moving to Missouri to be cared for by his son and family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses and spending time with family and friends.

Walter was also preceded in death by six siblings ~ Tom, Roy, Lester, Lloyd, Barney and Vivian; one great-grandchild Alexia Edawn Billups Wright.
